I Couldn’t Resist–
You all know, of course, that I am a major Anti-Anti-Vaccine proponent.
Respectful Insolence, one of my favorite blogs, posted this headline this afternoon:
Oprah and Jenny need your–yes, your!–help!
Oprah’s production company, whose unflagging idiocy in giving Jenny McCarthy her own soapbox has already flabbergasted me, has now asked for suggestions for topics for Jenny to discuss on said soapbox. Which only proves their idiocy once again.
Feel free to suggest such grand projects as the scientific method, the polio scourge and the death of that lovely little girl in Australia from pertussis. And the fact that I just had to send my teenagers to dad’s office for a TDAP, because pertussis is making a comeback here in the US, largely because of this anti-vaccine lunacy.
AND THEN…
Just when I thought the irony of this news day had played out, someone twittered a link to this video.
Make sure you have emptied your bladder before watching it. And don’t drink anything while watching.

There’s a Houston blogger I really like. She’s in your blog list. I was reading one post after another on her blog about her kid getting all these WEIRD diseases that no one gets anymore. After the 3rd post or so I smacked my forehead and said, “OH. She’s obviously not vaccinating!”
Just the stuff you can’t prevent is scary enough. Why put your kids through the risk & the torture of all these preventable diseases??? I just don’t get it.
I like her blog, but I won’t go on a play date with her.

It drives me nuts that some of these illnesses are making a comeback because of the hysteria. It makes me even more upset that Oprah is standing behind this.

Interesting. I don’t follow celebrity gossip so never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that anyone would actively avoid immunizing their children (barring certain religions groups.)
When I heard anti-vaccine mutterings, I thought it was about the new, unproven vaccines that are currently posing problems, despite being endorsed by the CDC.

So, I can’t watch the video b/c I am at work (I know), but I watched a thing on Ellen with Jenny McCarthy the other day where she was talking about hyperbaric oxygen chambers and how everyone needs one for their home. Even I am not that crazy.

I just looked at one of her vapid little blog entries:
“I’m glad to be back home. I missed Evan. I missed American food. It was amazing to watch the French eat though. Creams, breads, sorbets, smoking, drinking wine and the women were all skinny and gorgeous. What the hell is that about? I’m hanging in there for no sugar. I hope you are too. The French might be able to get away with eating whatever they want, but at least American girls have bigger boobs. Hahaha.”
Has anyone bothered to let Jenny know that her boobs would be small, too, if they weren’t big bags of saline? She sounds like such a petty b*tch… but we all should listen to her, because she knows best!

The song is great but those photos of the kids who’ve actually had to weather those diseases breaks my heart. What a twit, what does that make the moms who follow her lead blindly, effectively allowing these terrible illnesses to survive and thrive. Ugh.

Wow. That video was intense. Is this Jenny person married to . . . oh what is that guy’s name. Right. Jim Carrey? He did a big write-up on the Huffington Post about the horrors of vaccines. Seems anti-vaccine platforms are sprouting up everywhere.
And today in the news I see a mother and her young son are “on the run” because she wont’t let him get chemo — for religious reasons.
This is a provocative topic.
Great post. And a great video you posted.

The Huffington Post is fast becoming the laughing stock of the science community. They seem to love to spout woo. And they just hired a new editor who’s famous for woo.
Unfortunately, they have a wide audience, which makes this a little less laughable.

I have my daughter vaccinated for every available vaccine there is except for one, MMR. Am I doing the wrong thing? Should she get MMR now that she’s almost 2? I should say, those anti-vaccine literature out there do scare me big time.

Haven’t we learned by now that Oprah’s happy to give a platform to anything as long as she can monetize it?
