No,not all husbands are useful or even tolerable. Mine is a doctor and I guess I was hoping for something better than the Cosby routine, but, alas, no.

ok, so I know this post is old but I wanted to comment anyway.

For my first baby, I was in labor 17 hours before an emergency c-sections. My husband was there through it all (and 2 failed epidurals). And he was amazing!

I never realized that not all husbands were like this until I walked in my sister-in-law's delivery room and he was sitting in the corner playing a game with his best friend. I will never forget the way she very calmly whispered to me,"Get that idiot out of the corner so that I can kill him." heh.

Just wanted to share :)

He buried his head in MY PILLOW while I was pushing, his eyes clamped shut, terrified. So very unnecessary.

You had a doula? I'm SO jealous...but not about the 27 hour labor. That's whacked.

With my first child I had a Doula, my husband was in Iraq. I was in labor for 27 hours. The OB started talking about a C-section the moment I arrived at the hospital. My Doula helped me labor through without intervention! She was wonderful!

My second child my husband was there. It was a much shorter labor. He was exited to be involved and was wonderful to me. He is very proud that he was the one to cut the umbilical cord.

Well, I never actually minded the childbirth thing. But that sex thing was a pain in the ass! lol

One of the biggest disadvantages to having a baby at home was that after you delivered everyone was like, ok that's over. What's for dinner?

So I can only imagine what your hubby's snip was like. Mine was like Camille if he had so much as a splinter. He wouldn't even consider having his bits altered.

<abbr><em>Marie’s last blog post..<a href="http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2009/03/lovely-gift.html" rel="nofollow">A Lovely Gift</a></abbr></em>

I don't think so. I think most docs find that the husband just gets in the way. I think the touchy-feely movement forced their hands.

If we make them check their penises at the door, doesn't that mean we won't have to do the childbirth thing, ever again?

Someday I'll have to tell the story of my husband's vasectomy. Talk about being a baby. I was up and running around the day OF my deliveries, and he was lying in bed for DAYS after a little snip-snip.

Oh, this has made me laugh! I am a retired childbirth educator and doula. And I have to say, with few exceptions, men can be such asses while 'helping' during labor.

I have four children, the last two born at home. My husband was freaking useless. He was always a nervous wreck, probably more afraid that I would yell at him than anything. lol

He would hone in on one spot , like my forearm, and rub and rub and rub in circles while saying over and over "You ok? You ok? You ok?".

Jaysus, Mary and Joseph! Get off me you oaf!! lol

I wrote my Master's thesis on communication during childbirth, which was fascinating to research and found a similar theme.

Bottom line: Queen (above) is so right. Only vaginas should be allowed in. lol Penises should be checked at the door.
